Everything magical about Hollywood’s golden age is in Stanley Donen’s movies. From some of the most ecstatic musicals of the '50s to the bittersweet melodramas and Hitchcockian thrillers of the '60s, they’re models of grace and engines of pure pleasure. My answer to Why did old Hollywood musicals from the 50s and 60s go out of style? https://www.quora.com/Why-did-old-Hollywood-musicals-from-the-50s-and-60s-go-out-of-style/answer/Orlando-Fiol-1?share=52a4972b …
If you think La La Land is an homage to Hollywood musicals of the ‘50s and ‘60s, you truly don’t get the film.
In the 30s & 40s there were a lot of Hispanic actors in films, mostly musicals, but by the 50s that was changing. Unfortunately, Hollywood didn’t cast many people of color in films until the late 50s & early 60s.

It all reminds me of what happened to Hollywood in the 50's/60's. Big studios kept raising the bar with these grand epics, musicals, gimmicks, etc. until they literally couldn't support themselves anymore, leading to a rise of smaller scale & more indie stuff in the 70's or so. https://twitter.com/dashalosesit/status/1116690944361943040 …
Mid-century house/building arch. isn't for everyone. Detroit cars from the 70s. 80s synthesizer pop music. Hollywood westerns and musicals from the 50s/60s. Cal/Asian fusion food of the 90s. We've moved past all this, but does that make it all bad? Can't we appreciate the eras?

besides the noir cycle, my favorite era of hollywood is probably the late 50s and early 60s, particularly the comedies and musicals

I went from watching clips of one day at a time to how Hollywood musicals in the 50s and 60s had this one singer dubbing all the main rolls songs.
There’s a definite shift in the way Hollywood does business as a result of the Blockbuster mentality. Event movies used to come in all shapes and sizes. Look at the Best Picture winners from the 50s and 60s. Musicals! War! Billy Wilder! Comedy! Social statement films!
